The Medicine Bow National Forest is forged from three mountain ranges: the Laramie Range (east), the Snowy Range (center) and the Sierra Madre Range (west).  Each is diverse in its topography and climate.

High Altitude
When hiking the Snowy Range and other trails at high elevations, certain normal physiologic changes occur, such as: hyperventilation, shortness of breath during exertion, changed breathing pattern at night and awakening frequently at night.  As a precaution, allow your body a couple of days to acclimate before exploring the high country.
